Support from our local Schools, Colleges and Universities is very important to us. If you would like to fundraise for LOROS, we can help with ideas and supply information, posters and support. Our Fundraisers are also happy to visit schools, both primary and secondary and Universities to give talks about the work of LOROS. If you would like further details please contact the Fundraising Department on 0116 2318431 or email LOROS Fundraising .

Many local Schools, Colleges and Universities take part in some form of fundraising whether it is with selling the LOROS cuddlies or running events. Every contribution makes a huge difference to us as we try to cover the cost of continuing our services and value the opportunity it gives us to tell people of all ages about the work we do.

Pupils and students have become involved because we have cared for a teacher, parent or grandparent. All participating schools and colleges have supported us because they recognised the value of our work to the local community.

A great example is Loughborough High School, who recently rasied almost £5,000 for LOROS through various fundraising events at the school. Manor House School, Ashby de la Zouch kindly donated food from their harvest festival to LOROS. Rebekah Watkiss, a pupil at the Countesthorpe 'Out of School' Club came up with the idea of raising money for LOROS after a family member sadly died at the Hospice. The club raised money through sporting events at the Countesthorpe College. They raised £187.52.

We are immensely proud of the support we receive from the schools, colleges and universities in the county and we are constantly looking to extend the numbers we work with.

We work with Schools, Colleges and Universities in two ways:

Education: We are keen to visit you to talk about the work we do and are also happy to arrange for children and students to visit the hospice at any time. We can tailor our talks to any age groups. We can also visit your school for assemblies and talks.

Fundraising: There are lots of ways for schools and colleges to support LOROS, the list below is just few of them!

  • Selling LOROS Cuddlies:
    • They only cost £1 and help raise funds for the Hospice;
    • Cuddlies are available at Easter and Christmas;
    • We can deliver the cuddlies to you and call again to collect any money and unsold stock.
  • Running an event or series of events to benefit the Hospice;
    • This could include taking collections or donating proceeds from ticket sales at plays or concerts etc;
  • Inviting us to sell Hospice merchandise (such as greeting cards and cuddlies);
  • Having LOROS information at your events such as the newsletter and events flyers;
  • Running a stall at a summer fete, open day, fresher’s week or other event;
  • Other ideas include cake making and selling….the possibilities are endless.
LOROS will help you with your fundraising by:
  • Providing lots of fun ideas and advice for events;
  • Designing and supplying posters and flyers to help publicise your event;
  • Providing official hospice sponsorship forms for you to use;
  • Attending any event, including cheque presentations.
Please call Nancy in Fundraising to have LOROS as YOUR charity of the year in 2010 on 0116 231 8431.
