LOROS' services include:
Inpatient Care
The multi-disciplinary hospice team provides short-term specialist care for patients with complex problems (pain and symptom management), terminal and respite care needs.
Care in the Home
Our community team of Clinical Nurse Specialists and doctors help in the care of patients in their own homes. Together, with General Practitioners and Community Nurses, they seek to enable patients, who wish to stay at home.
Family Support
A team of trained LOROS staff and volunteer home visitors provide a break for carers by sitting with the patient in his/her home for periods of up to four hours.
Outpatient Care
Specialist medical consultation is available at the hospice or at the day therapy unit.
Counselling
Support in facing the disease itself, in dying and bereavement is provided for patients and relatives.
Lymphoedema
Regular clinics provide treatment for cancer-related and for primary lymphoedema.
Complementary Therapies
Are provided for patients and carers at the hospice and at the day therapy unit.
Day Therapy
LOROS offers day care at its Palliative Day Therapy Unit - Manor Croft, Ratcliffe Road, Leicester.
Care
Is provided by the multi-professional team of staff who are specially trained in palliative care. The hospice is accredited for specialist medical training.
How are Patients Referred to LOROS?
By either his/her Hospital Consultant or by his/her General Practitioner.
Does LOROS only take Patients with Cancer?
Most patients are in the advanced stages of cancer, but LOROS also takes patients with motor neurone disease and a few patients with other terminal illnesses.
Education
Seminars, lectures and courses are regulary held for nurses, doctors, social workers and for others in the caring professions. The hospice acts as a specialist resource for professionals and for the wider local community.
Do Patients of LOROS have to Pay?
No. LOROS is a local charity. It does receive financial assistance from the Department of Health, but relies upon voluntary contributions from the people and organisations of Leicestershire and Rutland for well over half of its running costs.
