Overview:
A 3 day interactive course which aims to develop effective communication skills in relation to end of life care.
Aimed at qualified health & social care professionals (bands 5 & 6) working in the county, city and Rutland areas of Leicestershire from:

Social Services

Aims of the course

To increase each participants' awareness of their own communication skills
-
To demonstrate the importance of good communication skills
-
To explore strategies for improving the healthcare professionals' communication skill
The course forms part of the University Certificate in Continuing Professional Development (end of life care). Delegates can therefore choose to access it either as an accredited or non-accredited programme.
Learning outcomes
The learning outcomes of the course are that participants will be enabled to:

Utilise the appropriate communication skills and strategies required to handle difficult situations

Tailor complex information to meet the needs of patients and relatives

Demonstrate the assessment skills required to facilitate expression of patients' concerns

Reflect upon and critically appraise their own communication skills

Show awareness of the evidence base concerning optimal communication skills

All participants will be expected to role play, however, this will be in a very supportive environment.
If you have been through a recent bereavement or stressful period please let me know and I will put you in touch with the course facilitator to have a discussion about the course.
Participants need to complete the whole three days in order to be certificated.
